I started work at James Cropper 23 years ago, as a finishing spare, my role was to sort and feed pallets onto the Pasaban paper cutting machine. I went on from there to become operator of the Maxson cutter up until 2007, when I joined the Engineering purchasing team. Six year later in November of 2013 I had the opportunity to join the HS&E department, I had mill knowledge but no environmental credentials and so began my journey in Environmental management.

Tell us about your role at James Cropper and a typical day
AG
The very best thing about my role, is that 2 days are never the same, I could be spending a day with an auditor one day, delivering Environmental awareness training the next and completing compliance returns the day after.
JS
What is your most memorable highlight?
AG
The Queen visiting site to open the RCF Plant in 2013.
JS
What work are you particularly proud of at James Cropper?
AG
From a company perspective it has to be our association with the British Legion, supplying the paper for the poppies.
JS
Which three things would you take to a desert island?
AG
Assuming the desert island resembles a Sandals resort, I would take my wife (for company), kindle (I love reading), my phone (to follow the rugby results, I am a big Sale Sharks fan).
JS
What’s your guilty pleasure?
AG
Finishing work on a summer evening and going for a round of golf at Carus Green.
JS
What is your favourite colour and why?
AG
I have been a lifelong Liverpool fan, my favourite colour has always been red.
