Promoted to Senior Technical Specialist
August 2025
After earning my Bachelor’s in Pharmaceutical Chemistry during the pandemic, I swapped lab coats for hiking boots and spent a few years as an activity instructor soaking up the outdoors while preparing for the adventure of a lifetime: an expedition to Antarctica with the Request2021 team. That chapter was packed with unforgettable moments and a serious dose of resilience.
I later pivoted into the hazardous waste industry as an industrial chemist, where I got hands-on with the gritty realities of industrial operations. Fast forward to 2025, I joined James Cropper and relocated to the breathtaking Lake District. It’s a place that fuels creativity and calm in equal measure and I couldn’t be more excited about what lies ahead.

What is your most memorable highlight?
GS
Running my first trial in Colourform was a standout moment. Seeing real-time improvements unfold right in front of me was incredibly satisfying. The machines themselves are a marvel, beautifully engineered and genuinely fun to work with. It was one of those days where everything clicked, and you walk away feeling proud and energised.

What work are you particularly proud of at James Cropper?
GS
I’m proud to be part of a company that blends heritage with innovation. James Cropper is a true icon in British manufacturing and luxury, and it’s inspiring to contribute to that legacy. The culture here is something special surrounded by passionate people who care deeply about what we do. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to bring your A-game every single day.
I’m especially proud of the work that’s gone into our new Coloursource range. It’s not just a team effort it’s been a passion project for everyone across the business. Seeing that level of dedication and creativity come together has been incredibly rewarding. It’s a testament to what we can achieve when we’re all invested in something meaningful.

Which three things would you take to a desert island?
GS
I’m not entirely sure how well I’d fare on a desert island, but I’d give it my best shot. I’d bring a multitool for versatility, a tarp for shelter, and a really good book probably the complete works of Jane Austen. If nothing else, I’d be well-equipped and well-read while trying to survive!
JS
What’s your guilty pleasure?
GS
I absolutely love watching cheesy romcoms there’s just something comforting about them. My all-time favourite must be Clueless. It’s witty, stylish, and endlessly quotable. Total feel-good vibes every time!
JS
What is your favourite colour and why?
GS
Purple. It’s a paradox in pigment and that’s exactly why I love it. It balances warmth and coolness, nobility and rebellion, mysticism and creativity. Once reserved for royalty, now it’s the colour of dreamers, thinkers, and those who dare to be different. It’s not just a shade, it’s a mood.
