I started work at James Cropper 3 years ago, as a Training and Competency Specialist, my role was to develop and implement a training framework for Paper. In July 2024 I was asked to head up a team to integrate Colourform into Paper, this involved all aspects of the Colourform business and gave me a real insight into how businesses are run.
In July 2025 I went to work in the HS&E department and was appointed Health and Safety Lead in September 2025.

Tell us about your role at James Cropper and a typical day
WF
My role offers differing challenges and is enjoyable, establishing document guides for the launch of Reporting forms and Investigations modules and training that out to the wider factory and reviewing and updating risk assessments with the shift teams and Engineers. Getting involved in the recent ISO45001 audit and carrying out site inspections are just some of the tasks that I’m involved in.

What is your most memorable highlight?
WF
Being successful in my application for the Training and Competency Specialist role, and therefore securing a position here at James Cropper.

What work are you particularly proud of at James Cropper?
WF
Being part of the Colourform team that landed the Ffern tray business at the start of this year. The speed in which the team delivered the finished product made me very proud.

Which three things would you take to a desert island?
WF
I’m a big fan of The Jam so all their back catalogue to keep my spirits up, I’m a golf obsessive so a sand wedge to practise my short game, and an endless supply of gummy sweets.

What’s your guilty pleasure?
WF
Apart from gummy sweets it must be binge watching series like Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Big Bang Theory and recently Brassic.

What is your favourite colour and why?
WF
Blue. The colour of my favourite place by the sea with clear blue skies and sea.
