Tell us about a typical day in your role at James Cropper:

RF
My job can vary a lot depending on what projects I’m working on. I’m usually involved in multiple different new product innovations or continuous improvement projects for existing products or customers, so my time can be taken up with meetings, reports, and data analysis for those projects.

I’m also involved in lots of day-to-day enquiries from customers, helping to recommend the right product for their project or pricing up bespoke products if we don’t already have something the fits the bill.

Aside from that, the best part of my job is getting to work on some of the more creative projects like designing product swatches or marketing collateral. This is where I have the most fun, and it’s a chance to take my head out of a spreadsheet and exercise the right-hand side of my brain!

During your career at James Cropper, what has been your most memorable highlight?

RF
I had the opportunity in early 2024 to visit several customers in North America which was a fantastic experience. We had a jam-packed week of travelling to different states to meet with customers and discuss new opportunities to further our partnerships. It was great to be meeting face-to-face and seeing parts of the world I’d never travelled to before!

What work are you particularly proud of at James Cropper?

RF
Something I’m really proud of is the work I did to launch our Wainwright Colours from Nature range – the first range of papers dyed with colours derived from natural sources. It was really rewarding to be involved in an industry first and work on creative ways to launch the product to the market and get people talking about James Cropper and the work we do on sustainable innovation.

Which three things would you take to a desert island?

RF
Spotify for a good selection of podcasts and music, a phone to listen to it on, and an embroidery or felting kit (something crafty to keep me occupied!).
JS

What’s your guilty pleasure?

RF
A Terry’s chocolate orange!
