Yearbook Showcases the World's latest Typefaces

The choice of a typeface and the design of a body of text can have a dramatic impact on its meaning. The responsibility for graphic designers is in choosing the right typeface. But how do you find the right typeface in the infinite universe of possibilities?

The Yearbook of Type presents an independent selection of new digital typefaces created all over the world, from larger publishers to smaller, independent typographers and foundries.

Since 2004, Slanted Publishers has been taking their readers on a voyage, sharing insight views from design studios around the world while presenting the minds and faces behind genius craft and work.

The Yearbook makes it easy to get an overview of recently published typefaces, while understanding their visual language. Each typeface is presented on a double-page spread: on the left side, a specimen gives an idea of possible applications and shows the beauty and character of each typeface while on the right, the page provides detailed information about the designers and foundries, as well as an overview of the typefaces’ features.

The Yearbook is complemented by a series of essays that offer background information about typography and the latest trends in type design.

A very helpful index sorts typefaces by classifications, as well as listing designers, foundries, and OpenType features. There’s also an online microsite www.yearbookoftype.com that presents all featured fonts, so that a designer can test or purchase them.

The Yearbook of Type III, produced by Slanted Publishers, has a special hardcover made from a 4mm laminate of Bowston Black paper. The cover is half linen bound and hot foil stamped with an electric blue foil print.
