Vanguard paper art with designer Maud Vantours. The project with Lancôme is a scenography for the opening of the brand’s flagship store on Champs-Elysées in Paris using a selection of paper in pink from the James Cropper Vanguard collection.

Maud Vantours is a Designer and paper artist living and working in Paris.

Maud’s poetry is based on colour, shapes and graphical design. Paper is her favourite material and she plays with it for prestigious brands.

Paper, this humble material is the starting point for almost all creative activity.

“I have worked with paper for a long time and there is always a new way to use it.”

Maud studied design at the Duperré school in Paris and during her degree started to work with paper. Colours, patterns and materials all have an important place in her work. Collaborating with coloured paper manufacturers makes perfect sense.

Layer on layer-technique

Maud has a special eye for geometrical expression and creates visual effects in 3D made of paper.

Her creating process consist of four stages:

First, Maud develops the concepts

This is followed by being drawn in 2D

She the chooses the right colour combinations, which can take everything from a couple of hours to days

Finally, she cuts the different layers

When everything is cut, Maud creates a sense of depth and volume. This is where the work comes alive. The cutting is very precise. When the work is for a client and it’s big, she uses a machine.

Lancôme’s remarkable new Parisian opening celebrates the brand’s 85th anniversary 2020 celebrations.

The store is a world-class showcase for the fragrance, make-up and skincare lines by the leading brand of the L’Oréal group’s luxury division.

“ I think the hardest part is to define the concept, find the idea and develop a new aesthetic. Creating a perfect colour match takes a long time too. I can change the entire tone of a colour combination just by switching or adding a single element, so it’s like a story I tell. ”
