Burberry is committed to building a more sustainable future and has achieved 50 disruptions at each stage of its linear value chain to move towards a more circular business model. In partnership, with our CupCycling™ initiative, we have recycled more than 58 million coffee cups into Burberry packaging.

The luxury brand has committed to ensuring all of its consumer packaging is reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025.

40% of Burberry’s new paper packaging material is made from recycled coffee cups, aligned with Burberry’s ambition to build a more sustainable future. The paper is also fully recyclable and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). FSC™-certified (License Code FSC-C009165).

Burberry has also made changes to reduce its plastic footprint in its transit packaging. Further to its commitment to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s New Plastics Economy initiative in 2018, Burberry will introduce new transit hangers made from a bio-based compostable alternative and is switching its garment bags to a compostable PHA-blended material.

Burberry’s environmental protection strategy is discussed in Walpole’s British Luxury Sustainability Report. The Walpole Sustainability Manifesto 2020 features our Burberry partnership and James Cropper’s sustainability credentials:

THE TRANSITION TOWARDS A CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Luxury paper manufacturing company James Cropper is seeking to create a positive impact by looking beyond its own recycled and renewable fibre initiatives to recycle coffee cups. The resulting packaging material has been much in demand for luxury brand and retail clients.

SAFEGUARD ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES
James Cropper is able to safely return 91% of the water it abstracts from the local river back into the water system, with just 7% retained in the product. Any fibrous waste that cannot be recycled is spread on local farmland, with the approval of the Environment Agency.
